Welcome to the second of Abbey and myself blog collabs. This month we have each recommended each other a book to read and review. Because we both love books and like we need an excuse to read a new book!
Abbey has an interest in historical fiction, and knowing I also love a good romance Abbey suggested I try ‘Step Back in Time’ by Ali McNamara.
So I went and picked up a copy in paper back, grabbed a cup of tea and got myself comfy for a good read. First off I loved the front cover, it show’s a female crossing a zebra crossing in the hand of an attractive man. Around the outisde is stars and a moon. There is also a red double decker bus in the background, so I presumed it was set in London.
So far if I’m to judge a book by it’s cover then I am sold!
I don’t want to give any spoilers in case you decide to give it a read, but the first chapter had me itching to read on.
The story is set around a female lead character by the name of Jo-Jo.
A bit of background on Jo-Jo; she works for her own accountancy firm in the Kings Road area of London. She adored numbers since a child and has a very mathematical and logical brain. Black and white is how she likes her subjects and the story begins as Jo-Jo has just popped out for a cup of coffee and is on her way back to her office when something dramatic happens!
As the title portrays, Jo-Jo does step back in time and what follows is a journey where she finds herself in 1963 and living in a world devoid of all our lateness technology and a very 60’s fashion sense! Jo-Jo then ends up leaping forward to the 1970′, 80’s and 90’s. Each time trying to find her way back to her present day in 2010’s.
Jo-Jo lives through these decades experiencing life as it was then and meeting some interesting characters along the way. What I loved about this is Ali has done a fantastic job of bringing to life these era’s and making it really believable that Jo-Jo is living it as if it is really that time.
I also love the sense of journey and adventure that you go on with Jo-Jo, it really would make a great film as there are no dull or slow points. But it’s no action film, it does has it share of love and romance 🙂
Without giving too much more away about the story as I would love for you to discover it for yourself, I really enjoyed it and thank Abbey for recommending such a fun and engaging read.
Have a watch of my video reading the blurb of the book below…
You can purchase a Step Back in Time from Amazon here. You can read the first chapter there too.
Remember to check out Abbey’s blog for her review of Lindsey Kelk’s ‘I heart New York’ recommended by myself.
Thanks for reading and be sure to look out for our next collab in September!
Lot’s of love,
