Yesterday we held a charity bake off for staff at work. The aim was to raise money in aid of Age UK and to spread some festive fun to staff. There were several cakes brought in, but there was straight away an obvious winner when Sharon from Daisychain’s Cakes (see previous blog about her here) brought her show stopper in.
Sharon had made a spherical cake, designed like a bauble, complete with air brushing for decoration and hand painted Father Christmas and reindeer silhouette on the front. And not only did it look so good, it tasted amazing too. Chocolate sponge with Bailey’s and cherry filling. Mmmm!
I have been working with Age UK West Sussex’s Marketing Officer to arrange for an external judge to come in and judge the cakes. We had two lovely ladies from a local cake company called Cake Magic come in and taste the cakes. No doubt to say that Sharon won for best looking cake. We also had winners for best tasting and best traditional cake.
I hope that we manage to raise some much needed money for the charity as like many charities they rely on donations heavily.
Also on the charity front, on Sunday I have signed myself up to run 5 km for a local hospice (St Wilfrids Hospice). They have arranged an event for people to enter where they can run in a santa suit around a local open air museum and raise sponsorship funds to help the hospice. I’m no runner by any means, I really don’t exercise so I don’t quite know what will happen! Only time will tell. But it’s all for a great cause so I’m going to try my very best.
If you would like to help support me and the hospice, then I have an just giving page where any donations are welcome. I will be doing the run in memory of my cousin Mark and close family friend Kevin, who both passed away at the hospice, but received the most amazing care and for not cost.
If that wasn’t enough, I am also going to help support with a lunch in a local Age UK centre on Wednesday for a couple of hours. Again a great way to support a worthy cause.
I have posted below a photo of Sharon’s amazing cake below, so you can see for yourself how fantastic it is.
