A brief update

18 May 2018

So how long has it been since I graced my blog with my presence? Too long I would say. Life has a habit of throwing a curve ball when you least expect it.
I want to protect my families privacy so I won't divulge much just as far as to stay a close family member has been unwell and I've been spending a lot of time with them and will be doing the same for the foreseeable future so my blog will take a back seat.
Sometimes things happen and as much as I like my blog, things like this makes me realise things (like my blog) that I thought were important are not that important in the grand scheme of things.
It's not like I make any money from my blog (trust me I don't make a bean) so putting this on the back burner really is what I need to do now.

Thank you for your understanding and I hope to be back at some point. I'll keep you posted if and when I do.

You can though keep more up to date with me on Twitter and on Instagram. I do try to update there more often.

Wishing you all the best,

What's in my make up bag

22 April 2018

Last time I did 'What's in my make up bag' post was just over a year ago, so I thought an updated post is long over due.

I've been using a lot of warm tones for my skin, more because it's been so damn cold this Spring (apart from this mini heatwave we're currently having) and I like the more berry and gold tones to brighten up my look.
If you were to go rummaging through my make up bag, you'd not find many high end brands. I'm a drug store woman, show me a Superdrug or Boots and I'm there. If I could justify the cost I would love to purchase from Becca, Hourglass and Chanel. But alas my bank account is more favourable to spending on Rimmel, Makeup Revolution and NYX.

So with that said, here are the products I am currently reaching to at the moment...

This is my second bottle of this foundation and I love it. I often end up getting a shade of foundation that is not quite right but I've found a pretty good match with this one.
It doesn't give as full coverage as the packaging suggests but it does give enough for me to happily keep using it. The texture is not too thick, neither is it too runny. As Goldilocks once said 'it's just right!'.
I've found it doesn't need much touching up during the day, I normally apply it in the morning and leave it for the rest of the day. No fussing about which I like. A pretty good all round product at a drugstore price! :)

Whilst also in Boots looking at the foundations I came across a new section from the brand Obsession. I love their mono eye shadows as they are really pigmented and only £2 each!
So when I saw this conealer I was intrigued to give it a go.
The application is much like Maybelline's Age Rewind concealer (you know the one with the spongey round applicator top, where you click for the concealer to seep through).
This was reasonably priced so I thought it was worth the risk to give it a go.
The product comes through the sponge head and is easy to apply under my eyes. I then use a makeup blender sponge to blend this in. I wouldn't say this would cover the darkest of bags (and I should know!) as I'm yet to find the Holy Grail of concealers. But this does do some work to cover them and stay put for the best part of the day.

Bronzer and Highlighter

I am instantly drawn to this brand as I love the packaging. Each one looks like a chocolate bar. Sweet!
But I don't judge a book by it's cover with this one as it also has some pretty shimmery highlighting and bronzing shades inside.
On the left are the more cooler tones and on the right are the more warmer tones for bronzing. The shades are quite pigmented, so a little goes a long way. I do espeically like the lighest shade for highlighting as it is a very pale pink pearleque hue to it.
This is also a nice compact size, ideal for make up bags.

Since I purchased the Stila eyeliner (a God send- more later) I have wanted to try more of their products. So I recently picked up their Lip and Cheek cream compact as I loved the colour of the blusher.
Lilium is a soft dusky pink shade which I think would suit most complexions.
I have been using powder blusher but I find it can look flat and matt, so I wanted to find a creamy version instead to add a bit of a sheen to my cheeks.
As the name suggest it can also be used on the lips, but I haven't tried it yet as I'm not sure I want the same shade on my cheeks and lips!

Another I heart Makeup product that I love. The packaging again looks like melted chocolate in rose gold on the outside which is so pretty.
The shades inside are all warm shades, in gold, pink and brown varying from shimmery shades to matt finishes.

The palatte has some reddy pink shades I would say are not too far a miss from Urban Decay's Heat palette. I'm quite drawn to the pink shades and tend to use the pink shimmery one as a base and add depth with the dark pinker shades.

And the other great thing about this is that it smells like chocolate!

I had seen reviews of this eyeliner and how much it had been praised as an great all round product. But seeing is believeing so I picked this up from Marks and Spencers to try it out for myself.

I have used previously similar eyeliner pens (I can't get on with kohl or ink liners) and whilst they do create the desired look not being waterproof has been their down fall. For example, I needed to pick up another Stila eyeliner recently, but had yet to do so. So I used one of my other branded eyeliners and went about my day. On that particular day my eyes had decided to be watering and as a result my eyeliner has smudged all onto my eyelids. Such a great look!

But I've nver found this to be an issue with my Stila eyeliner. It stays put all day as the name suggests and does not smudge or rub off at all. It really is the best eyeliner I can recommend.

I fell for the hype for the Benefit Costmetics Bad Girl Bang mascara. It certainly had a lot to live up to with it's claims and for me it really was a bit of a let down. I found it too clumpy and really not a wonder product I was hoping it to be.

But Benefit do redeem themselves with their Roller Lash mascara. An oldy but a goody. I like the fact it gives my lashes definition as well as covering each lash. It rearely clumps and doesn't flake or smudge either. It's a great fool proof and all round mascara.

This pencil I had prchased before Benefit did their eye brow products relaunch (all the silver coloured packaging) and I really like it as it is a good match for my eyebrows in colour.
I have a draw full of eye brow products I have tried but no longer use due to not matching my brows how I like.

The downfall with this product is that Benefit has disontinued it :( But I have found a seller on Amazon selling it, which is where I got this one from and is my second one.

Why does it always seem to be the products I grow to love that get discontiued- feel like this happens all the time!

I will admit I don't wear lipstick all the time when I do the rest of my make up. I think it's because I know it will rub off almost as soon as I apply it so I think what's the point!

When I do want some lip colour I have been using this lipstick from H&M and simply because I like the dark dusky pink shade.

I'd love to know what you're current make up must haves are, it's great to have personal recommendations rather than industry opinions. Drop a comment below and let me know!

Love and hugs,

Abbie xxx

Day Trip to Arundel Castle

18 April 2018

On a recent warm Spring day I took the liberty to visit Arundel in West Sussex. For those who aren't familiar with Arundel, it is a quiet, small and be it up market English town near the south coast. Arundel is steeped in history, from the castle to the cathedral to the olde world properties dotted around.
You'll find no high street fashion retailers (for those who like a shop high street brands then Arundel isn't the destination for you) but there is wonderful cafe's and coffee shops, along with boutiques and bookshops.

My Expectations and Realities of being a Blogger

16 April 2018

I was watching a Youtube video last night and in it a Youtuber was showing her Zara haul purchases. Nowt wrong with that. Except she did declare she has put it all on her credit card and needed her viewers help to decide which items she should keep as she couldn't afford to keep them all.
And that got me thinking about what the expectations are to be a blogger or social media influencer.
There's always the finished article which tends to look polished which sets an expectation, but then there's always the reality of creating this content.
So below are what I see as expectations and the reality of when I blog or use Instagram.

Enviable Wardrobe
Expectation: An Instagram profile of me wearing the latest fashion looks, shot in an artsy street location. Hair styled in a wavy, undone look, with air brushed make up and finished with the latest must have handbag.
Posing in a natural and flattering pose, striking that stance that looks like I've taken classes in how to pose like a model (or at least watched a Youtube tutorial or two).

Reality: A bank account hovering above empty every month as I over spend at ASOS to create said fashion looks. Clothes I only wear a handful of times despite the above financial impact. Photo's where I feel I look like an inferior version of Zoella or any other stylish Influencer. Posing in such an awkward way I look like a statue.

The One With The Update

11 April 2018

A big over due hello to you!
It's been nearly a month since I posted on here, which since I started my blog is the longest we've been apart!

I wish I could say I have been bossing it and living life to the full, but the honest truth? I've just been doing the day job and pottering around on my days off. My mojo for blogging I'm still working on, but this evening I felt the desire to write a post. Short of having anything worth while to write about I thought I would do a catch up post.

The Body Shop Blogger Event

18 March 2018

Well hello! Long time, no blog! Hopefully you have been keeping well, esp with the snow that has been gracing the UK over the last few weeks. I always get expectant of warmer sunnier weather this time of year but alas it's been more wintry. Roll on Spring!

So in my absence of blogging I have been chilling out (quite literally with this weather!) and just taking a break from the merry go round of blogging. I wish I could say I have been busy with blog worthy events and outings but it's been a bit quiet on that front.

But one thing I have done that is blogger friendly is attend my second The Body Shop VIP blogger evening in my home town. This is such an awesome event held in my local branch of TBS and it's open local bloggers and Youtubers.
After the success of the first one I attended back in November, I was eager to go to another one to see all the new season exclusive products and purchase lovely products.

OMG I'm back again!

3 March 2018 Chichester, UK

Hello there! It's been a little while since I graced my blog with a post or two, so short of actually having a particular topic in mind to write about I thought I would bring you up to speed with what I've been doing I since I last posted. Phew, that was a long sentence!

I would love to tell you I have been doing something amazing and wonderful, but the truth be told I haven't really been or done much other than work. The main reason for my hiatus you may be wondering? Well as I always strive for honesty, I have fallen a bit off the blogging wagon. For the last two and a half years I have poured almost all my free time into blogging. And for no reason at all over the last month or so, my passion that drove me to blog consistently just vanished! Whoosh! Just gone and packed it's bags without a backwards glance!
I wish I could pin point it to something in particular, but other than feeling demotivated as my views have gone down a bit.

My Make Up Loves

11 February 2018 Chichester, UK

Make Up Flatlay, Beauty flatlay, cosmetics flatlay

I'll be the first to admit I'm a lover of make up, but when it come's to the application of said products I am not the best. Looking over social media there are endless photographs of females (and males) with expertly applied make up. This to me is a skill and not one I have accomplished myself.

That said I do love playing with new products and hoping somehow applying it will transform me into a Kardashian. It never happens, but still I try!

I've got some hero products that I am currently using, so read on to see what they are...

DIY Home Spa

4 February 2018 Chichester, UK

You know when you feel like you need a good old pamper? Something to make you feel in a zen like state and all refreshed and revived. I had that desire recently, so I took to making my bathroom into a home spa.
Who has the cash to splash out on a Champney's spa treatment? Not me for sure. So I DIY my own chill out session and here's what I did to give you some inspo should you want to recreate your own one...

First things first, you need a good bath tub full of hot water and lot's and lot's of bubbles. I used Champney's (see I can afford this!) A Well Earned Treat bubble bath. This smells so sweet and fragrant, it's a must. I also make sure I've got my fave body wash Imperial Leathers Marshmallow shower cream. This is normally on sale for a £1 in most drug stores and smells just like a tube of marshmallows :)

Searching for a sense of style- Part II

28 January 2018 Chichester, UK

If you've seen my previous blog post, you'll see I currently have a girl crush on this fellow blogger here, Zoe. I love Zoe's relaxed look, she nails it perfectly. And I have been experimenting myself with using her as inspiration.

So here I have recreated using the website Polyvore, three of what I would call Zoe's signature looks.
When you break it down, it does help to understand how she pulls these looks together.
There is a mixture of smart meets casual, with beat up trainers and distressed denim, to floaty tops and blazers to add a bit of structure. Teamed with ethnic and bohohemian jewelery and always a statement hand bag.
Complete with bed head hair and you have a modern relaxed and chic look.

Searching for a sense of style- Part I

21 January 2018 Chichester, UK

As you may of seen from my posts, I’m certainly no trend setter.
In fact I couldn’t tell you what the latest trends are. And so you get to my age (33 in case your wondering) and if you’re like me you start settling for comfort and relaxed clothing.

But I still like to have some sort of style (shabby chic I think). I have recently discovered a French blogger who’s style I’m currently lusting after.
Her name is ZoĆ© and she has the street cool look nailed to a tee. She manages to make a simplistic and relaxed outfit look so chic and cool. It’s like making an effort without looking like you’ve made an effort.
Think layers, distressed denim, trainers and boho jewellery and you’re there.

Blogging- What is it good for?

14 January 2018

Blogger flat lay

Did you know in that in 1999 there was only 23 blogs on the internet? And in 2006 it had grown to 50 million, and now? There are an estimated 152 million blogs on the world wide web.
That’s a lot of people who love writing and socialising on line.

I was late to the blogging game, having started this here blog at the age of 31 in 2015. Being that I’m a 80’s baby, I grew up with the internet really coming into it’s own when I was 14 or 15 years old and back then the internet was still a baby itself. Blogs like Zoella’s that really cemented mainstream blogging was still way off in the future. So the exposure I had to blogging (or weblog as it was then known) was minimal, if non exsistence.

Over the moon with Happiness Boutique and 10% off

8 January 2018

Happiness Boutique

Every so often I will get an email from a company that would like to collaborate with me in some way through my blog. Sometimes the emails can be rather strange, like a request for me to promote a menswear range (umm, thanks but no thanks), to adding a link to a product that is just not reflective of my tastes.

So when a brand does their homework and contacts me with a request to work with me and it's right up my street, then I get rather excited!
One brand that has recently reached out to me is called 'Happiness Boutique' which straight away made me intrigued. My blog style is to try and be upbeat and positive so I replied with wanting to know more.

My 2018 R̶e̶s̶o̶l̶u̶t̶i̶o̶n̶s̶ ̶ Aspirations

Happy 2018!

If you’re reading this with a sore head and a furry mouth then I hope you saw in the New Year’s in style!
If you’re like me and stayed up to see the countdown in on the sofa, tucked up with a blanket, then I salute you! I’m all for painting the town red (well in theroy- reality is normally involving pj’s, Netflix and snacks!) but saving a small fortune on door entry and over priced drinks is far more sensible (this is what being over the age of 30 does to you!).

Anyway I digress. The purpose of this post is to share my musings of New Years Resolutions. Those three words that fill you much hope and inspiration but in reality is just a case of abandoned promises a few months (or weeks) in.

I’m one of those people who runs into the New Year full of desire to become a better version of me. #theoldAbbieisdead. The 1st January is like shedding your skin of your previous misdeanours (me? Never!) and vowing to make a change. Be it the most common resolutions of eating healthily or losing weight, swearing off alcohol and Mc Bangs to stopping procrastinating on seeking that dream job. We’ve all been there for sure.
