My June Favs & Book Giveaway

28 June 2017

Wow, June flew by! One minute it was May and it's nearly July. This month I have mostly worked, worked and worked. But in between I have been blogging away getting content out to you lovely lot.

I'd love to know what you like about my blog- what post's interest you the most and what turns you off? Feel free to leave a comment below but please nothing disrespectful, this is a place of positivity and good vibes :)

Anyway I digress, this month I have had a few items I have been loving and read on below to see what they are!

I've been living in these stripy cotton trousers from Mango (£19.99) quite a lot! They are super comfy and jazz up a plane top. Great also for day to evening wear.
I have been teaming them with this pink cropped t-shirt from Zara for a bargain £5.99!
And for creating an evening look I have these black heeled mules from Marks and Spencer for £19.50.
These trousers also look great with a slogan print t-shirt for the day and a slinky cami for the evening. So versatile!

Another look I have been loving is this pink faux suede jacket from Primark which I think was approx £25. I so love Biker style jackets- in fact I have about 10 different styles!
When I tried this on in the Primark in Bournemouth, there was only a size 4 and a 10, not size 6 or 8. But the size 4 fits perfectly as it is actually a size Euro 32 which is a size 6 in most other stores.

With this I have been wearing this cropped black and white t-shirt which is the same as the pink one from Zara. I also found these ripped knee and raw ankle hem jeans in the sale in H&M for £15.
Finally I treated myself to a pre pay day treat of these Jotham sandals from Hush Puppies.

I know that Hush Puppies tend to have a frumpy image but I saw these before at full price and even tried them on and they are so comfy. The sole is padded for extra comfort. I like the fact they look smart whilst ideal for day to day wear.
I got these for £39.99 from Schuh.co.uk and they also had free next day delivery which was awesome. Very impressed with the service from Schuh! :)

As you may of seen in my previous post 'How to style a Trench Coat' I have a love for Audrey Hepburn. So when I saw this framed quote in Homesense for £9.99 I knew I had to have it!
I love the quote it's self as I think elegance is underrated. Also I love the colour way of pink and gold- how pretty does that look!

If you know me at all, you will know that I love 'chick lit' books. I have quite a few that I love and one of the most recent additions to my collection is the latest book by Paige Toon; The Last Piece of my Heart.

Paige is one of those authors that has written many a great book and I remember her debut novel Lucy in the Sky and buying it all the way back in 2008. And since then I have been reading all her books.
So when I randomly saw Paige was doing a book signing in Bournemouth one morning on a day off I said to Dan let's go and a few hours later I was in the queue in Waterstone's waiting to have my booked signed.

Paige as you would imagine is lovely. I had a little chat with her and she was impressed I'd travelled quite the distance to meet her!

The book itself is a fantastic read. I don't want to give too much away as I like to leave it for the reader to discover how the story unfolds as they read it. But to summarise, it's about love not being found in the most conventional places. The lead character Bridget is a character I warmed to straight away and I was drawn into her story and wanting to keep reading to find out how it all pans out for her.

I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for great summer read for your hols or for whiling away a warm afternoon in the garden (or even a wet weekend indoors). If you've read it I would love to know what you thought of it.

And as a BIG thank you for those who have followed my on Bloglovin' and helped me get to 1,000 followers (I remember struggling to get even one follower!) I am giving away a paper back copy of The Last Piece of My Heart to one lucky winner! Plus I'll throw in a cute bookmark so you can preserve your book (and not be a page folder like me!).
Simply leave a comment below and I will pick one name at random to send the book to. But PLEASE leave an email address or blog link or social media handle so I can contact you if you win the book. Thank you! :)
You can follow me on Bloglovin here :)

Open internationally. Giveaway closes at Midnight on Saturday 1st July GMT. Only one entry per person. Prize is x1 paper back copy of Paige Toon's book 'Last piece of my heart'.

Thanks for reading and good luck for entering the competition!

How to style a Trench Coat with Jack Wills

25 June 2017

Every season there are new items that come onto the scene, for example Mom Jeans, Palazo trousers and cold shoulder tops. But there are always those classic items that never leave the fashion scene and one such items is the iconic Trench Coat.

Over the last few years I have become an avid fan of the style icon that is Audrey Hepburn. She has such a timeless and ladylike style that I feel symbolises my ideal way to dress.
And Audrey was synonymous for styling a Trench Coat in one of my favourite films Breakfast at Tiffany's.
I think cropped Capri pants, a Breton top, ballerina pumps, finished with a Trench Coat is such a feminine and classic look that is so simple to replicate. And Audrey sure did wear it well.

A Trench Coat is perfect for the Summer and forth coming Autumn season. Anyone living in Britain will know how unpredictable the weather can be. Sunny one minute, raining cats and dogs the next and to me a Trench is ideal to get you through the British seasons whilst still looking chic and on point.
And this autumn a selection of Audrey's personal belongings including her Trench coat will be put up for auction. Can't stretch to the £6,000 to £8,000 estimate? Then read below how you can still look chic without the huge price tag...

There's one great British retailer that has Trench Coats nailed for summer and autumn 2017; Jack Wills. From the classic beige shade of Trench to baby pink and blue.
For me I love the classic beige shade; perfect dressed down with denim and your fav snuggly jumper and a pair of Converses, to a black shift dress and heels, it's such a versatile item for your wardrobe and should be a staple for any fashionista's wardrobe.

And if you're looking for further inspiration, then Jack Wills have the perfect How to style a Trench guide to help you out. And if after reading that you're thinking you do indeed need a Trench coat in you're life (I know I do!) then you can check out Jack Wills women's Trench coat's here.

I'd love to know how you would style a Trench, or if you have one how do you wear it?

Love and hugs,

Blogger Collab with Abbey Louisa Rose | We love Disney!

21 June 2017

It's that time of the month (and no I don't mean a visit from Mother Nature!). It's my monthly collab with the amazing blogger Abbey Louisa Rose. This month Abbey suggested we share our love for Disney and I instantly said let's do this, as I love, love, Beauty and the Beast!
And you can see what Disney film Abbey is loving on her blog here.

The live action version is out on DVD on 17th July, so to mark the occasion here are some of my own Beauty and the Beast items and a bit of back ground on my love of the film.

Above is the wooden ornament my husband got for me from Clinton Cards. I love this as it is hand painted and reminds me of the romance and happy ever after of the film. Next to that is a rose in a glass dome, that lights up. My husband also got this for me and this is from the Disney store. It's actually a Christmas tree decoration, but I have it out all year round :)

Above I'm wearing my new pyjama's set from Asda. This cost £14 and you can order it here. I need
no excuse for pj's. I mean last week all I wore was either my work clothes or when at home my pj's!
I love these ones as they are colourful and depict the characters clearly- I mean look at how cute Chip is!
I also brought these Beauty and the Beast socks from Primark, why not go the whole hog and be Disney head to toe!

So a little background on why I love the film so much, rewind to Christmas morning of 1993 and I'm 9 years old. I unwrap one of my Christmas presents and what do I have? The film on VHS tape! Much to my delight. I don't remember but I must of been to the cinema to see it, hence wanting the film for Christmas. I loved then the story line, the characters and the music. It's my fav Disney film for sure.
A year later I get the Belle doll for Christmas. She came with her blue dress with white pinafore and a yellow ball gown. I also recall having a Beauty and the Beast tumbler from a MacDonalds happy meal.

Not my own products I'm afraid. I have no idea what happened to my toys as I had no younger siblings to hand them down to. Might have to have a scour of my mums loft in the hope they are still around. My love for the film is still strong and I'm so excited for the release of it on DVD in July!

Abbey and myself would love to know what you're fav Disney film is, please leave a comment below and do check out Abbey's blog to find out what her fav Disney film is here.

Love and hugs,

Chic and the City | A Guide to Brighton

18 June 2017

On a warm and particularly sunny day recently, myself and my hubby decided to take a trip to the sea side (oh I do indeed like to beside the sea!) and headed to the fun and vibrant city of Brighton.
Brighton is often dubbed 'London by the Sea' and I'd think who ever came up with this moniker is on the money.
Think shops, restaurants, plenty to see and do like the Capital, but with the added bonus of sun, sea and er, the occasional patch of sand when the tide is out!

Once we arrived by train to Brighton, I noticed there was a slight nip to the air as we were right by the coast. I have only bared my legs a handful of times this year and right then I was wondering if I should of donned some leg wear. But luckily it was hotting up and I soon appreciated having opted for sans trousers.

Our first stop was to the sea front. For those unacquainted to Brighton, think typical British seaside with Brighton having distinctive turquoise railings running along the length of promenade. The skeleton remains of West Pier, the now iconic pillar that is the i360 and the Palace pier standout as key land (or sea) marks.

As it was now comfortably warm a number of people were dotted about the beach making the most of the warm weather. From foreign students attempting a brave paddle in the waters edge, to mums and their buggies and dog walkers, there was quite a few people basking in the early afternoon sun.

Birch Box reveal for June

14 June 2017

I love getting parcels through the post. When I was younger my aunty would sporadically send parcels in the post full of sweets, her designer hand me downs and designer make up she no longer used. It would be like Christmas had come early!

So fast forward a number of years and I have signed up to receive my own monthly parcel in the post. Birch Box, for those who have been living under a stone, is a monthly subscription service, where you get sent beauty products of various brands to try, tailored to your skin and hair type preferences.

This month was an extra good box, as the products didn't actually come in a box, but in a rather pretty make up. Before I was sent this I was emailed to ask which of two colours I wanted and I opted for the pink with lemon colour stripes.

Inside the bag is 5 products, where one will always be a full size product. All this for £10 a month! What a deal!

So here are the products I received this month...

I've got mail- A Blogger Mail collab

7 June 2017

I maybe a bit old school but I love the art of letter writing. Yes emails are quick and efficient mode of communication, but to me nothing beats a hand written letter. So when Lydia at Mademoiselle Women asked me to be part of a blogger mail swap I instantly said yes!

Lydia suggested we theme the mail around candies and sweeties so off I went to find some treats to go with Lydia's letter. You can see what I sent Lydia here.

A few days later I received Lydia's letter and goodies in the post. Nowadays all I get in the post are bank statements, junk mail and political leaflets. So to get a proper letter in the post was something of a treat!

This idea was originated by my other blogger collaborator, Abbey Louisa Rose and you can see her post here.
