A Treasure of a find :) Plus discount code!

29 June 2016

Twitter, I used to think what the hell was the point of it? I would tweet and tweet and no-one would respond. I then stopped using it, but when I set up my blog I found it was a fantastic way to engage with other like minded people and bloggers. And I've been loving it ever since.

What Twitter has also given me is the joy of discovering brands and companies I would of otherwise never had the pleasure of seeing. So when I stumbled across The Treasured on Twitter and I went onto the website www.thetreasured.co.uk
I was in love! So many cute, girlie and fun products, from stationery to homeware. My favs!

After a few tweets back and forth to Laura, the creator and genius behind The Treasured I decided to get in touch with her personally and ask her if she would like to feature on my blog, so I can share the wonder that is Laura and The Treasured.
I think the amazing products she sources are so up my street, I'd hoped you'd like it too! So I kindly asked Laura some questions about The Treasured, how it came about and how she manages working with social media.

Fashion Favs | What I have been buying

26 June 2016

I'm no trend setter. I'll state that fact from the start. But I do love shopping and looking at what's on trend at the moment. That doesn't mean I can replicate these looks, but I pick out an item or two that catches my eye. Below is some of my favourite clothing purchases of late. When I used to work in a fashion store I was always in the latest fashions, but now I'm a little off with what's hot and what's not. I tend to stick to what I like, not necessarily what current trend dictates.
Anyway take a look at my current loves:

I found this bomber style jacket in Pull & Bear in Brighton. It was on a mannequin and what I loved was the patch effect on it. I'm really into this look at the mo. I also liked the fact that it is light weight. Perfect for this time of year. I normally team it with denim jeans, but it is quite versatile. This is £35.99.

My reflections on blogging

20 June 2016

So it's been about 10 months since I created this little piece of the internet as my own and what a learning curve it has been.
I thought I would take this opportunity to reflect on what I have thought so far. I guess I'm still just a ickle baby in the grand scheme of blogging. But I'm growing and learning on how to craft my blog in a way that truly reflects me.

I love writing so to be able to harness this passion of mine in a blog is fantastic. And whilst the driving force is to be able to create content I am proud of, I also feel that it's a boost to be able to get people, other bloggers or like wise, to follow my blog. It makes me feel that what I'm writing has worth if others are liking it. I know a blog should start with what you like and shouldn't be about numbers and getting free things. Which to me it isn't. I'm happy to write and design a blog that I would like to visit and getting feedback from others is a bonus. But what I would like to be able to do is make my blog a more permanent thing and commit more time to it, as I would love to pursue my passion for writing as more than just a hobby.

But how to do that? I don't know the answer to that. I know some lucky bloggers have managed to move from doing their blog on a more full time basis, but I'm clearly not there yet. Not being just 10 months in. I know that building up a blog of creditably takes time, and by this I mean a good couple of years at least of grafting.

My Modcloth loves

18 June 2016

There's one website that I think sums me up completely. And that's Modcloth. Modcloth is an American online store, that stocks a whole cornucopia of goodies. From cute, girly and vintage style clothes to adorable and fun home ware. I think it's so me.

So I thought I would pick out some of my favourite items they currently stock on their website. I have just done this for my own pleasure as I just love delving into their website and wanted to share with you in case you haven't discovered the delights that are at Modcloth.

I haven't ordered from them though, as due to the fluctuating dollar to pound currency and import tax costs it's not been financially viable. But for a number of years I have been lusting at Modcloth's website from afar.

Far Fetch | Patches and Prints

17 June 2016

L-R- DSquared2 hand print top £180
Steve J and Yoni P embroidered crop sweatshirt £229
Stella McCartney embroidered jeans £510

I was recently contacted by the lovely Kristy at Far Fetched who works for an online designer fashion website incorporating over 400 boutiques around the world.
Kristy asked me to share with you items that I have been inspired by from their current summer collection. I have cherry picked the items that really stood out to me.
As you might of seen in a previous blog post I have tried my hand at accessorizing my own clothing with iron on patches. I love this trend, it's fun, youthful and very on trend.

Below are collections of just some of the items that stood out to me. I took inspiration from a boutique in New York's SoHo called Kirna Zabete. This boutique is run by owner Beth Buccini who hand picks each and every item to hang in her beautiful boutique. And if a trip to a designer NY
boutique is a bit of a stretch (roll on pay day-lol!) then you can shop the boutique on FarFetch.com.

Happy National Cupcake Day!

16 June 2016

To celebrate National Cupcake Day supporting and raising awareness Alzheimer's I have made some rainbow frosting for some cupcakes.
I have found my cake baking and decorating skills are not really improving, so I did cheat and by some all ready made cup cakes. I was more keen to have a go at the frosting, rather then the cake its self.

What I'm loving Wednesday

15 June 2016

This week I've been let out for good behaviour (sic) and got a weeks annual leave (or holiday to you and me) from work. I had nothing planned other than to do something on Monday just past to celebrate mine and my hubby's 15 year anniversary of when we first starting dating, and also coincides with our 2nd wedding anniversary.

For an anniversary present my lovely hubby brought me some perfume I've been after for ages, Jimmy Choo Exotic. He also treated me to an necklace from Accessorize (rose gold dontcha know!), some Cath Kidston socks (as that's the symbol for 2 years of marriage and I love CK) and a Me to You bear key ring (I'm a slight hoarder of these tatty teddys!). A very grateful lady I am 😊

We celebrated with a trip to Hobby Craft, yes being in your 30's is so rock'n'roll. Followed by dinner in ASK restaurant and drinks in a local pub/restaurant with a few friends. A very pleasant day.

Paige Toon | The one we fell in love with | Book Review

14 June 2016

Well hello to you! I have recently finished reading Paige Toon's latest novel 'The one we fell in love with' and thought I would do a little book review for you.

This latest release from Paige is her 11th novel (excluding her YA series) and I can still remember picking up a copy 'Lucy in the sky', Paige's debut novel. And now it's her 11th book, how time flies!
I was keen to give this a read as I'm a fan so wanted to get my nose stuck right in. Though I want to be honest and say that I really struggled with one of Paige's novels 'Thirteen weddings'. I'm no author, so I can't comment from that angle, but as the reader I really couldn't get into it and ending up abandoning it (so sorry Paige!). There was something about the writing style that just didn't grab me.
So I was a little hesitant, but hopeful that 'The one we fell in love with' would be great and worth the read.

Exclusive Giovanna Fletcher interview

12 June 2016

If you've been following my blog you will know I love 'Chick Lit' books. And one of my favourite author's is the hugely talented Giovanna Fletcher. You may also have heard of Giovanna as she is married to Tom, of McFly fame.

I recently saw Giovanna was doing a book tour to promote her latest book, Always with Love, and in a matter of days she would be in Southampton Waterstones. Damn that it fell on a working day :(
But to my surprise my ever so thoughtful husband had taken the hour long train journey to Southampton to get my copy Always with Love signed.
Dan queued for three hours to get it signed and I was over the moon when he confessed on the phone that he had met Giovanna that day.

Beauty Tag

5 June 2016

Credit Tania

I have kindly been tagged in a beauty tag post by A little bit of Lou. I met Lou at a blog meet up in March and she is so sweet, so I thought it only right to reciprocate her tag.

This is the first time I have done a tag post before, so here's hoping I do it justice!

So here's what the tag involves...

1. Tag and thank the person who nominated you.
2. Answer the questions you've been given.
3. Nominate 10 Beauty/ Fashion Bloggers.
4. Create 10 questions for them to answer.
5. Tell the bloggers that you have nominated them!

So onto the questions Lou has tagged me in:

1. If you could only use five products from your makeup collection, which ones would you pick?
Ok tough one, I'm going to go and look at my make up collection. BRB...
Right, it would be;
  • Mabelline Lash Sensational in intense black mascara
  • Mabelline Baby Skin primer
  • Collection Lasting Perfection concealer
  • Benefit Hello Flawless foundation
  • NYX Sculpt and Highlight brown pencil

Patching it up

2 June 2016

I watched a vlog of Zoella's a couple of months ago, and in it she was wearing some light coloured jeans with some iron on patches on it. On Zoe this looks amazing, I mean she could wear a bin liner and still look fab. But that got me thinking; could I recreate a similar look myself?

So thus started the hunt for iron on patches or transfers. I will be honest, I did have to do a lot of hunting. Mostly on line at first for some patches I liked the look off. After a few days of searching, I decided to try my local Hobbycraft store. This one is quite a big store so I thought they must have some. To which they did, but in my opinion it wasn't the best selection. Still beggars can't be choosers, so I picked up a couple I thought would suffice.
